Bracknell was designated as a new town in 1949. Much of the town centre and surrounding area was built up in the 1960's, leading to a dominating mass of grey concrete. Pedestrianisation and segregation of the residential and industrial were key ideas in Bracknell's planning, which has had a peculiar effect on the architectural feel of the place and the social issues Bracknell suffers from.
I lived in Bracknell for some time early in my life, and previously I remembered it as an ugly and soulless place. Through documenting it photographically I was able to reveal to myself the aesthetic interest and irregular beauty that lies in this spectre like English town.
